A female police officer attached to the Ogidi Division in the Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State has been found dead after being kidnapped by unknown assailants.

Ogidi has recently witnessed a surge in violence and killings.

For instance, on Thursday, September 11, 2025, tragedy struck Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State when gunmen suspected to be cultists opened fire at a burial ceremony in Ezi Village, killing four people and injuring about 15 others.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, believed to be members of a rival cult group, stormed the venue on motorcycles while the bereaved family was performing burial rites.

They reportedly fired indiscriminately at mourners, causing panic as attendees fled in different directions before the assailants escaped from the scene.
