Tinubu returns to Nigeria after 4-week stay in Europe
President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after an extended stay in Europe. The President arrived in Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, following a four-week working vacation that began on August 30.
The presidential aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at approximately 6:22 p.m. Upon his arrival, President Tinubu dismissed concerns regarding his health, stating,
I’m healthy, sound, and ready to go.
The Presidency had initially announced a three-week working vacation, but the stay was extended by several days. During his time abroad, the President spent one week in London before proceeding to Paris, France, where he held meetings with business leaders and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga noted that the President continued to work while abroad, emphasizing that digital tools allowed him to discharge his responsibilities without being physically present in Abuja. Tinubu chose to return to Lagos first to honor the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola and to attend the premiere of a movie dedicated to the June 1993 election winner at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre.
Following his engagements in Lagos, which include strategic meetings with political leaders ahead of the 2027 elections, the President is expected to return to Abuja.
