Delta State’s Ndokwa Union Denies Suspension Of President General, Admits Internal Rift Among Leaders | Sahara Reporters
The union said the disagreement recently reported on social media was an internal rancour among members of its National Executive Council (NEC), which had now been resolved following the intervention of the NNU Elders Council and other stakeholders.
The Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), the socio-cultural apex body of the Ndokwa ethnic nationality in Delta State, has declared that the status quo remains in its leadership, denying reports that its President General, Comrade Chief Amechi Asugwuni, was suspended.
The union said the disagreement recently reported on social media was an internal rancour among members of its National Executive Council (NEC), which had now been resolved following the intervention of the NNU Elders Council and other stakeholders.
The development was contained in a press statement dated September 28, 2026, and signed by Asugwuni, President General of the NNU, and Den. Jimoh Egwali, Esq., Secretary General.
The statement came after reports circulated that Asugwuni had been suspended over allegations bordering on financial impropriety, abuse of office, gross misconduct and other violations.
A previous letter obtained by SaharaReporters had claimed that 11 of the 15 members of the NNU NEC formed a quorum and passed a resolution suspending Asugwuni with immediate effect and until further notice.
The purported suspension letter accused him of “gross misconducts, flagrant violations of the NNU standard cultural principles, abuse of office, financial malfeasance, unethical conducts, conduct to prejudice social harmony, and other dangerous operational red flags.”
It said the action was taken pursuant to Article 12(6) of the NNU Constitution 2026, as amended, and was intended to allow the union’s disciplinary committee or an ad hoc body to investigate the allegations.
The resolution was signed by several NEC members, including the Secretary-General, Assistant Secretary, National Woman Leader, Legal Adviser, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Youth Leader, Organising Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Auditor and Assistant Publicity Secretary.
However, in the September 28 statement, the NNU said the matter had been resolved and that there was no basis for treating Asugwuni as suspended.
“We write to inform the good people of Ndokwa Nation and the general public that, following the intervention of the NNU Elders Council and other stakeholders on the 27th September, 2026, we have respectfully resolved all lingering misunderstandings amongst members of the NNU Executive Council, as status-quo remains in the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU),” the statement said.
The union said its leadership had resolved to remain focused and united following the intervention.
“The House has resolved to remain focused and united. We appreciate the understanding and patience of the Ndokwa people as these matters were addressed, and we remain committed to working together in the best interest of Ndokwa Nation and to making you all proud in all our engagements,” it added.
The NNU also urged members of the public to disregard negative publications and reactions concerning the disagreement.
“We urge the public to disregard any negative publication, comments or reactions on social media platforms and to focus instead on the renewed unity and shared commitment of the NNU leadership,” the statement said.
It added, “We remain one people, one family and one united NNU. Together, we are stronger.”
The statement was signed by Asugwuni and Egwali “on behalf of the NNU National Executive Council.”
The latest position means that, according to the statement issued by the NNU leadership, Asugwuni remains the President General of the union.
The union concluded by reaffirming its commitment to Ndokwa Nation, saying: “Long live Ndokwa Nation! Long live Ndokwa Neku Union!!”
