The political landscape in Nigeria has been stirred by recent allegations involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. Various stakeholders have weighed in on the controversy, with some calling for his suspension to allow for an independent investigation into claims of financial misconduct.

The alleged colossal budgetary fraud cannot be swept under the carpet by weak and unconvincing explanations by the Chief of Staff.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been among the prominent voices demanding that President Bola Tinubu suspend Gbajabiamila to ensure that an impartial probe can be conducted regarding the allegations raised by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi. These allegations center on claims of a N400 million bribery scandal and irregularities involving the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Conversely, groups such as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have cautioned against the removal of the Chief of Staff, arguing that he should not be sacrificed based on unsubstantiated accusations. They emphasize the importance of due process and the rule of law, suggesting that Gbajabiamila’s long history of public service should be considered.

The Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC is a fictitious body with no legal basis or presidential approval. Despite this, the pressure continues to mount as various political figures and advocacy groups insist that a thorough, independent investigation is necessary to restore institutional trust and address the concerns raised by the public.
