#OsunDecides2026: Governor Adeleke Raises Alarm Over Police Arrest Of PDP Chairman, Alleges Plot To Alter Results | Sahara Reporters
Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed on Saturday, said Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after participating in Saturday’s governorship election.
The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Sunday Bisi, describing the development as an abuse of law enforcement and an attack on the democratic process.
Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed on Saturday, said Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after participating in Saturday’s governorship election.
The governor alleged that the arrest was intended to intimidate political supporters and prevent them from monitoring the collation of results from various polling units.
Adeleke said, “Information reaching me indicates that Hon. Bisi was accosted in his home in Ilesa shortly after he returned after voting, and whisked him away to yet to be known location.”
He expressed concern that the authorities had not provided information on the reason for Bisi’s arrest, alleging that the development could be connected to efforts to restrict opposition supporters from monitoring the election results.
“Up till this moment, no one has been availed the reason for his arrest, which indicates that the APC is working in cohort with compromised security agents to keep people away from monitoring results at the various collation centres,” the governor alleged.
The governor further claimed that Bisi’s arrest was part of what he described as a wider operation targeting his supporters during the election.
“This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” Adeleke said.
He described the alleged development as a major threat to democracy and urged those involved to desist from using state institutions to interfere with the outcome of the election.
“This is the biggest assault on democracy, and I urge everyone involved in this desperate attempt to upturn the will of our people through the use of state institutions,” he said.
Adeleke subsequently demanded the immediate release of the PDP chairman, insisting that his arrest was politically motivated.
“In that regard, I am calling for the immediate release of Hon. Bisi because his arrest is nothing but political and other political prisoners across Osun state,” the governor said.
He also stressed the importance of allowing voters to freely exercise their democratic rights without intimidation or coercion.
“Election should be about the people freely giving their mandates to the person of their choice without threat or force,” Adeleke said.
The governor’s demand comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State as the governorship election progresses, with allegations of arrests, intimidation and disruptions involving supporters of different political parties.
