Maulud Celebration: Tinubu, Centre Urge Nigerian Muslims To Embrace Lessons Of Perseverance | Sahara Reporters
Addressing the country’s security and economic concerns, President Tinubu called for sustained national prayers against the pervasive security threats and socioeconomic afflictions impacting various parts of the federation.
President Bola Tinubu has charged Muslim faithful across Nigeria to make deliberate efforts to adhere to the exemplary teachings and virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as the nation celebrates this year’s Eid-el-Maulud.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President stressed that the annual commemoration should serve as a period for deep spiritual introspection, prayer, and devotion rather than mere festivities.
“The Muslim faithful should make deliberate effort to adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad,” Tinubu stated. “There are great lessons of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness that we can all learn from the life of the Prophet.”
The President called on Islamic religious leaders to utilise the Maulud period to offer prayers for the nation’s peace and stability, while admonishing their followers to translate the Prophet’s values into active civic commitment toward national development.
He also urged citizens celebrating the festival to extend a hand of fellowship and practical support to the vulnerable and less privileged within their communities in the spirit of togetherness.

Also, the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has urged Nigerians across religious divides to embrace peace, love, tolerance and peaceful coexistence as Muslims mark the 2026 Maulud Nabiyy celebration.
CAIDOV said the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) offers important lessons on compassion, unity, tolerance and respect for humanity, noting that these values are needed in Nigeria more than ever.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Executive Director, Gbenga Soloki, the organisation called on Muslims and Christians to live together peacefully and work towards building a united and prosperous country.
“As we celebrate Maulud Nabiyy 2026, we call on all Nigerians, Muslims and Christians alike, to live together in peace and harmony. A peaceful Nigeria will guarantee prosperity for all. Let this season remind us that we are stronger together,” the statement said.
The organisation urged Nigerians to shun violence, religious intolerance, hate speech and other acts capable of threatening national unity.
It also called on religious leaders to use their platforms to promote peace, forgiveness, tolerance and understanding among their followers.
CAIDOV urged the government and security agencies to ensure adequate protection of lives and property during the celebrations.
The group further appealed to Nigerian youths to reject hate speech and become ambassadors of peace in their communities.
CAIDOV reaffirmed its commitment to promoting human rights, justice and non-violence across Nigeria.
It wished Nigerians a peaceful Maulud celebration, saying, “May the spirit of Maulud Nabiyy bring peace to every home and nation.”
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan also felicitated with Muslims across Nigeria, particularly the Muslim faithful in Kogi Central Senatorial District, on the occasion of the celebration of Mawlid an-Nabi, urging them to reflect on the life, teachings and exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In a goodwill message marking the occasion, the Senator described Mawlid as a significant period for Muslims to renew their commitment to peace, compassion, humility, justice and peaceful coexistence, stressing that the teachings of the Prophet remain relevant to the challenges confronting society today.
Senator Natasha said the celebration should go beyond festivities and serve as an opportunity for Muslims to strengthen their faith, promote unity and extend kindness to people irrespective of their religious, ethnic or political backgrounds.
“Mawlid is a beautiful opportunity for us to reflect on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose message emphasised compassion, justice, humility, peace and love for humanity. These timeless values remain essential to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
She particularly called on Muslims in Kogi Central to continue to uphold the longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence among the various communities and faiths in the senatorial district.
The Senator also encouraged Muslim leaders, parents and young people to use the occasion to promote moral discipline, peaceful dialogue, compassion for the less privileged and responsible citizenship.
“As we celebrate Mawlid, let us remember the less privileged among us. Let us share, forgive, show compassion and extend a helping hand to those in need. The true beauty of this celebration lies not only in our words and gatherings but also in the positive impact we make in the lives of others.”
Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan further urged Nigerians to reject religious intolerance, hatred, violence and divisive rhetoric, particularly at a time when the country needs greater unity and understanding among its citizens.
She called on political, traditional and religious leaders to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement across communities.
