FIFA unveils new training programmes for club executives, players

FIFA has announced the fourth edition of its FIFA Diploma in Club Management and the second edition of the FIFA Players Executive Programme, with both programmes scheduled to begin in November 2026 and run until April 2028.
The 18-month initiatives are designed to strengthen leadership and management skills across the football industry, bringing together club executives, active and retired professional players and coaches.
Participants will combine online learning with optional in-person sessions, club visits and behind-the-scenes experiences at clubs around the world.
In a post obtained from the football governing body’s website on Thursday, FIFA’s Director of Professional Football Relations and Development, Ornella Desirée Bellia, said the programmes demonstrate FIFA’s commitment to developing the people who play key roles in the game.
“The FIFA Diploma in Club Management and the FIFA Players Executive Programme reflect our commitment to supporting the key stakeholders of the game,” Bellia said.
She added that the programmes would provide participants with opportunities to learn from one another while developing the skills required for careers beyond the pitch.
“Through knowledge-sharing, practical learning and a truly global network, we aim to equip club executives, players and coaches with the tools to continue driving the professionalisation and growth of the game.”
The FIFA Diploma in Club Management is aimed at club executives, as well as former international players and coaches working in managerial positions at clubs.
The programme covers six key areas: leadership and management; governance and legal matters; finance; marketing and communication; club operations and stadium management; and sporting strategy and youth academies. Graduates and their clubs also join the FIFA Club Management Network, providing opportunities to exchange ideas and best practices across the global football community. The FIFA Players Executive Programme, meanwhile, is specifically designed for active and retired professional players and coaches preparing to move into leadership and executive positions.
Its five core areas include football management, physical and mental well-being, financial planning, personal branding and communication, and philanthropy.
FIFA Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer Gelson Fernandes said the development of football depends on strong leadership at club level and greater involvement of former players in the administration of the sport.
“The development of football requires a collective approach, and for that we need strong and committed clubs, led by capable administrators with the right experience and ambition,” Fernandes said.
He also stressed the value of players’ experience after their playing careers.

“Players are at the heart of the game, and we must do everything in our power to keep as many of them as possible involved in football beyond their playing careers. The game needs their experience, their knowledge and their perspective.”
FIFA said the programmes have already created a global alumni community, with participants representing 57 nationalities and 155 clubs across 55 countries. All six confederations have been represented among participants.
The latest editions will continue FIFA’s effort to develop football leadership both within clubs and among players and coaches preparing to shape the game beyond the pitch.
