The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, will on Saturday, September 26, 2026, address the contentious Diaspora Voting Bill at the Town Hall Series New York.

The event, themed “The Diaspora Voting Bill: Promises, Politics and the Path Forward,” is scheduled to hold at the Sinatra Room, Jay Suites, 15 W. 38th St., New York, USA, at 12pm ET (5pm WAT).

The townhall, organised by News Central TV is expected to bring together Nigerians in the diaspora to discuss the lingering disenfranchisement of millions of citizens abroad and the political machinations stalling their right to vote from foreign countries.

Sowore, a prominent human rights activist and founder of SaharaReporters, has been at the forefront of the fight for electoral justice in Nigeria.

His appearance at the event underscores the growing pressure on the Nigerian political establishment to amend the Electoral Act and grant diaspora Nigerians the right to participate in the country’s electoral process.

For decades, Nigerians in the diaspora have been denied the right to vote in national elections despite their immense contributions to the country’s economy through remittances.

The Diaspora Voting Bill, which has been repeatedly proposed in the National Assembly, has consistently failed to scale through, with critics accusing the political elite of deliberately frustrating the process to maintain the status quo.

Sowore is expected to address the historical promises made to the diaspora community, the murky politics surrounding the bill’s failure, and the actionable pathways forward to ensure that Nigerian citizens abroad are fully integrated into the democratic process.

The event according to the flyers, Sowore shared on X handle and other social media platforms on Saturday, will be broadcast live across major networks, including DSTV (Channel 422), GOtv (Channel 23), StarTimes (Channel 274), and streamed live on YouTube via @NewsCentralTV.

SaharaReporters will provide live updates and coverage of the townhall as it unfolds.
