2027 Elections: Peter Obi Writes Onitsha Monarch, Says Future Of Ndigbo Bleak, Asks South-East For Support
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has reportedly written a letter to the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, expressing deep concerns regarding the political and economic future of the South-East region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the document dated September 19, 2026, titled ‘The Future of Ndigbo is Bleak,’ the former Anambra State governor allegedly highlighted the challenges facing the Igbo people and appealed for unity and support from the South-East geopolitical zone to secure a better political outcome in the upcoming national polls.
The future of Ndigbo is bleak if we do not consolidate our political influence and speak with one voice in the coming 2027 elections. We must look beyond partisan lines to protect our collective interest in the Nigerian project.
However, it is important to note that Peter Obi has since publicly disowned this letter, describing it as a fabrication by mischievous elements intended to mislead the public. He has explicitly stated that the signature on the document is forged and that he did not author the correspondence.
