The Yucateco Boxing League staged its Week 16 hostilities at the Alake Palace in Abeokuta on Friday, featuring 27 bouts with several pre-event feuds settled in the ring, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
In the opening 51kg contest, Israel Makinde of Progreso BC dominated Samad Asude of Harmony Boxing Club to secure a 5-0 victory, while Faruk Oshikoya of Miramontes BC recorded a similar scoreline against Taiwo Bakare of Akil Boxing Club.
The 57kg clash between Toheeb Wasiu of Progreso BC and Wahab Adeniji of Harmony Boxing Club provided end-to-end action, with Adeniji emerging victorious via a 3-2 split decision.
Technical Director Babatunde Laguda revealed plans for special Yuletide celebrations for the boxers.
“We have designed activities to celebrate the boxers competing in the league. They will receive gifts courtesy of the promotion, and a special dinner night is being arranged in their honour,” Laguda said.
The event took place in the absence of Yucateco Boxing Promotions CEO Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, who is currently attending the 62nd annual World Boxing Council convention in Germany.
With 411 bouts completed in Season 2, twelve accredited boxing clubs are competing for the grand prize of N50m, with the season set to conclude in February 2025.
