Tinubu’s gas reforms deliver four FIDs in two years –Verheijen
Nigeria has recorded four Final Investment Decisions in gas projects in less than two years under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, while average daily gas production has risen from about seven billion cubic feet to eight bcf, the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Mrs Olu Arowolo Verheijen, has said.
She attributed the progress to reforms designed to remove investment barriers and unlock Nigeria’s gas resources for industrialisation, electricity generation and economic growth.
A gas-rich nation cannot be comfortable while families remain stuck in the age of firewood.
Verheijen also highlighted measures to promote Liquefied Petroleum Gas for household cooking, including import duty waivers and zero-rated value-added tax on LPG and gas cylinders.
She disclosed that more than N100bn in longstanding gas debts had been settled since January 2026 under the Presidential Power Sector Financial Reforms Programme, as part of efforts to strengthen the sector.
