Security operatives rescue two kidnapped farmers, neutralise kidnapper in Lagos

Troops of 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, have rescued two kidnap victims and neutralised one kidnapper in Igbonla, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The victims, Mr. Kelvin Okafor and Mr. Alex Anato, were abducted on Friday, September 4, while working on a farm in the area.
In a statement, the Army said the operation was launched after receiving credible intelligence on the abduction.
Acting swiftly, the joint security team mobilised to the kidnappers’ location in the forest.
“On sighting the advancing troops and other security personnel, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding forest,” the statement reads in part.
The troops immediately pursued the fleeing suspects, resulting in the neutralisation of one kidnapper, while two others escaped deeper into the forest.
The Army said the two victims were rescued unhurt and subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for medical assessment, debriefing and further action.
It added that the remains of the neutralised kidnapper were also handed over to the police.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, saying troops would “continue to sustain aggressive and intelligence-led operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action and enhance the safety and security of communities across the country.”
