A man identified as Victor, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said voters had been at the polling area since the morning but were still waiting for their turn to vote.

An agent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was seen moving close to voting cubicles at Ward 8, Polling Unit 9, in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, directing voters to thumbprint for the party amid complaints of delays and a lack of coordination at the polling unit.

The incident occurred as voters complained that the voting process was poorly organised, with the number system initially introduced at the polling unit reportedly abandoned, leaving many voters confused and struggling to determine when they would be allowed to cast their ballots.

A man identified as Victor, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said voters had been at the polling area since the morning but were still waiting for their turn to vote.

Victor said the situation had become increasingly chaotic, with the number of voters yet to cast their ballots far exceeding those who had already voted.

“This is Ilesa Garage area, and we have been here since morning. Before, they were using numbers. Now, they are not using numbers anymore. Everywhere is crowded, as you can see,” Victor said.

“Now, people who have not voted are much more than those people who have voted. That’s why we are beckoning to you. Please, come to our aid. If there is anything the government can do, they should come and do it so that we can leave here on time.”

He also complained that voters were not properly organised despite the presence of security personnel at the polling unit.

“People are not organised. There is even a security personnel there. They shout and shout, and nobody is listening to him,” he said.

Victor appealed for urgent intervention to prevent voters from spending the entire day at the polling unit.

“If there is anything the government can help us with, so that we can leave here, if not, this is after 2pm and the official time. I’ve been here since 8:00 o’clock. I came here at 8:00 o’clock; now look at this,” he said.

Another aggrieved voter, a woman identified as Elizabeth, also expressed frustration over the manner in which the voting process was being handled.

Elizabeth said voters were initially asked to obtain numbers, giving them the impression that the voting process would follow the sequence. However, she said the system was later abandoned.

“So since morning, we’ve been here. When we first came, we were asked for numbers. So we thought they would be following the number, but no, the reverse is the case,” Elizabeth said.

She expressed concern that some voters might not be able to vote if the situation continued.

“In fact, we don’t know whether we have the assurance of voting today, because if it should continue this way, I don’t think that will be possible,” she said.

Elizabeth also called for the deployment of additional security personnel to the polling unit, saying those already present had been making efforts but appeared overwhelmed by the situation.

“In fact, we need more security people, because those ones that are even around, they have been trying their best, but I think their best is not enough,” she said.

The alleged conduct of the APC agent near the voting cubicles, coupled with the complaints from voters over the disorganised process and delays, has raised concerns about whether voters are being allowed to exercise their franchise freely and without interference.
