NDLEA seizes 2.1 tonnes of cannabis hidden in NNPC fuel tanker in Ondo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a 20,000-litre fuel tanker loaded with 2,145kg of cannabis concealed in a hidden compartment in Ondo State.
The operation took place on September 4 along the Akoko–Lokoja Expressway after NDLEA operatives reportedly pursued the tanker when its driver refused to stop for inspection.
According to the agency, the driver later abandoned the vehicle at a church premises in Ugbe Akoko and escaped into the bush.

NDLEA officers searched the tanker and discovered 165 bags of cannabis concealed inside the vehicle, alongside its legitimate fuel cargo reportedly being transported to Jos, Plateau State.
The driver was subsequently arrested and is assisting the agency with its investigation into the consignment.
The seizure underscores the continued use of legitimate commercial vehicles by drug traffickers in attempts to conceal and transport large quantities of illicit substances across state lines.
