NASS Should Impeach Tinubu For Going Contrary To Constitution – Atiku’s Aide
A former aide to the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called on the National Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Bola Tinubu, alleging that the president has consistently acted in violation of the Nigerian Constitution.
The National Assembly must wake up to its constitutional responsibilities. We cannot continue to watch as the executive arm of government treats the supreme law of the land with such blatant disregard. If the President continues to act in ways that are contrary to the provisions of the Constitution, the legislature has the power and the duty to commence impeachment proceedings.
The aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, argued that the current administration’s policies and actions have undermined the rule of law and democratic institutions. He specifically pointed to recent executive decisions which he claimed bypassed legislative oversight and ignored judicial pronouncements.
It is not about personal vendetta; it is about the survival of our democracy. When the executive branch decides to operate outside the bounds of the law, it sets a dangerous precedent that threatens the stability of the nation. The lawmakers are the representatives of the people, and they must act to protect the sanctity of the Constitution.
The statement comes amidst growing tensions between the executive and various political stakeholders regarding the direction of the country’s governance and economic management. The aide further emphasized that the National Assembly’s failure to act would be seen as a dereliction of duty.
