The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) chapter, has issued a 14-day strike ultimatum over the non-implementation of the domesticated Federal Government/ASUU agreement.
The trade dispute with the university administration, was declared in an official letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor and obtained by SaharaReporters on Tuesday morning.
In the letter, the union threatened to shut down academic activities across the institution if the management fails to implement the revised Academic Salary template with effect from January 1, 2026.
Titled “NOTICE OF DECLARATION OF TRADE DISPUTE AND 14-DAY ULTIMATUM OVER NON-IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FGN/ASUU AGREEMENT” with reference number LASUED/ASUU/2026/069, the letter was jointly signed by the union’s Vice Chairperson, Comrade Olayemi O. Abimbola, and Secretary, Comrade Ibraheem A. Alabi.
According to ASUU-LASUED, the decision was unanimously reached at its Congress held on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The union revealed that despite submitting a copy of the agreement dated February 3, 2026, to the Visitor of the University in March 2026—as directed by the national body of ASUU—several engagements with the management have yielded no positive result.
“Having presented the copy of the agreement dated February 3, 2026 as directed by the ASUU National, and subsequently submission to the Visitor of the University since March 2026; the several engagements concerning its implementation had not yielded any substantial result,” the statement read in part.
“Our members have experienced significant and unwarranted financial strain as a result of this protracted delay, especially in light of the current economic difficulties. This action has caused widespread discontent, lowered employee morale, and adversely impacted the atmosphere of the university community as a whole.”
The 14-day ultimatum, which officially commenced on August 31, 2026, is set to expire on September 13, 2026.
The union warned that failure to resolve the demands satisfactorily within the period will lead to an immediate and unannounced strike action.
“Accordingly, University Administration is hereby given a 14-day ultimatum, commencing from 31st August 2026, within which to implement the domesticated FGN/ASUU Agreement (revised Academic Salary template) with effect from January 1, 2026,” the union demanded.
“The ultimatum will expire on September 13, 2026, and the Union will be forced to take appropriate industrial action without further notice in compliance with the resolution of the Congress and applicable procedures if University Administration is unable to satisfactorily resolve the issue within the allotted time.”
ASUU-LASUED urged the university leadership to act swiftly to avert an imminent disruption of the academic calendar, safeguard employee morale, and preserve labor peace on campus.
