The Labour Party (LP) has expressed deep concern over the prolonged absence of President Bola Tinubu from the country, describing his continued stay abroad as a cause for national anxiety. The party, in a statement, questioned the rationale behind the President’s extended “working vacation,” arguing that it has left a leadership vacuum at a critical time when the nation is grappling with severe economic and security challenges.

The party’s leadership noted that while the President is entitled to rest, the current situation raises constitutional questions regarding the management of state affairs. They emphasized that the ambiguity surrounding the President’s activities while on vacation undermines public trust and transparency in governance.

The Labour Party demands that the Presidency provides a clear and honest account of the President’s whereabouts and the nature of his “working vacation.” Nigerians deserve to know who is truly in charge and how the country is being governed in his absence.

Furthermore, the party criticized the Presidency for its dismissive response to legitimate inquiries from citizens and opposition groups. They argued that the government’s attempt to label the President’s absence as a routine matter is an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians who are bearing the brunt of the current administration’s policies.

The Labour Party concluded by calling on the National Assembly to perform its oversight functions and ensure that the executive branch adheres strictly to constitutional provisions regarding the transfer of power and the conduct of the President while away from the country.
