Kebbi Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Qur’an Desecration, Fetish Ritual | Sahara Reporters

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, over alleged desecration of the Qur’an and involvement in a fetish ritual in Zuru Local Government Area of the state.

Musa, a resident of Rafin Mose Village in Zuru, was arrested following an incident reported in the Zango area of the town on August 9, 2026, at about 7pm, according to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman.

The police said preliminary investigations linked Musa to two other suspects, identified as Rabi’u Tela, husband of Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango, who are currently at large.

According to the command, the suspects allegedly dug a pit inside Hassan’s room and buried a copy of the Qur’an along with semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and other items described by the police as fetish materials.

The police alleged that the act was intended to make Hassan “more submissive to her husband, Rabi’u Tela.”

The command said the incident could have caused a breach of peace among Muslim residents in the area.

Musa is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and inciting disturbance, the police said.

The command said efforts were underway to arrest Tela and Zango, while Musa would be charged to court after investigations are completed.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, condemned the alleged act and warned against actions capable of threatening religious harmony and public order.

“The command will deal decisively, within the law, with individuals whose actions threaten religious harmony, public order, and peaceful coexistence,” Hadejia said.

The police said investigations are ongoing and efforts will continue to apprehend the remaining suspects before the case is taken to court.
