Four Suffer Multiple Fractures In Lagos Vehicle Collision As LASTMA Arrests Two Drivers | Sahara Reporters
The agency said its operatives also implemented traffic control measures to prevent further accidents and ease vehicular movement along the busy corridor during the morning rush hour.
Four passengers sustained multiple fractures in a road crash involving a Toyota Highlander and a commercial Mazda bus at Otedola, inward Berger, near Jubilee Gate in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the collision occurred during the morning rush hour on Monday, prompting a joint rescue operation involving its operatives and officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
In a statement signed by LASTMA Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, on Monday, the agency said the four injured passengers were rescued from the scene and taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for immediate medical attention.
“Operatives of LASTMA, working in concert with officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), demonstrated exceptional promptitude by swiftly mobilising to the scene, commencing rescue operations and instituting strategic traffic control measures to mitigate the immediate consequences of the collision,” the statement said.
The agency said its operatives also implemented traffic control measures to prevent further accidents and ease vehicular movement along the busy corridor during the morning rush hour.
According to LASTMA, the intervention helped prevent a possible secondary collision that could have endangered other motorists and commuters.
Security personnel from the Isheri Police Division also provided security support during the rescue and recovery operations.
LASTMA said the drivers of both vehicles involved in the crash were apprehended and handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
The two vehicles were also transferred to the relevant security authorities to facilitate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The agency did not disclose the identities of the drivers or the immediate cause of the crash.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives, LASAMBUS personnel, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and officers of the Isheri Police Division for their response to the incident.
Bakare-Oki said coordination among emergency responders and security agencies was essential to ensuring the prompt rescue of accident victims and managing traffic disruptions.
He stressed the importance of preparedness and swift intervention, particularly on busy roads where delays could worsen the consequences of road crashes.
The LASTMA boss also urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds and remain attentive while driving.
He warned that preventable road crashes continued to pose a threat to lives, public safety and the movement of people and goods across Lagos State.
LASTMA said it would continue to strengthen its emergency response operations, traffic surveillance and enforcement activities to improve road safety and ensure orderly movement across the state.
