First Lady unveils S’West food bank in Ogun

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-West zone in Makun, Sagamu, Ogun State.
She affirmed that the programme aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at advancing food security, improving health outcomes and building a more prosperous nation.
According to a statement signed on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the First Lady on Media, Busola Kukoyi, Tuesday’s engagement was the fourth zonal flag-off of the initiative, designed to support malnourished children under the age of six, pregnant women and lactating mothers with nutritious food.
Kukoyi said Mrs Tinubu commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and his wife, Bamidele Abiodun, for establishing three food banks in the state in Sagamu, Yewa North and Abeokuta ahead of the zonal launch.
She also acknowledged the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, and the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Muyi Aina, for their roles in driving the programme to secure the wellbeing of vulnerable children and lactating mothers.
“The First Lady described the initiative as a deliberate and sustainable response to food insecurity and malnutrition among vulnerable households nationwide, explaining that it was designed to ensure that children under six, pregnant women and lactating mothers have easy access to nutritious food,” the statement read. She subsequently commissioned the Muhammadu Buhari Housing Estate in Kobape, Ogun State, describing it as a milestone in the journey towards providing decent, smart and affordable housing for residents of the state.
The estate, comprising 108 housing units, is situated along the Oke-Mosan-Kobape Expressway.
Speaking at the commissioning, Abiodun thanked the First Lady and stressed the importance of addressing the state’s housing deficit through the provision of decent and affordable accommodation to improve living conditions for residents.
He assured that his administration would continue working tirelessly to provide affordable housing units for citizens until the final day of his tenure.
The First Lady also commissioned the Gateway Medical Centre of Excellence during her visit to the state and separately met with traditional rulers in Ogun State as part of her engagements.
