A former local government chairman of Obio/Akpor in Rivers State, Timothy Nsirim, has been accused of masterminding the abduction and torture of a young man, identified as Mr Nyekazi, after a disagreement over his father's burial arrangements.

Family sources told SaharaReporters that Hon Nsirim had invited Mr Nyekazi to a meeting regarding the pending burial of his late father.

However, upon arriving at the former council chairman’s residence, Nyekazi was shocked to find his uncle, Mr Samuel Ibemeru, present at the meeting.

It is alleged that Mr Nyekazi had long suspected his uncle, Mr Ibemeru, of having a hand in his father’s death.

Unable to contain his anger, he reportedly told Hon Nsirim that he could not sit in the same room with someone he believed contributed to his father’s demise.

SaharaReporters gathered that Mr Nyekazi left the meeting abruptly, an action that reportedly infuriated Hon Nsirim.

However, the next morning, according to sources close to the family, Nsirim allegedly dispatched some men to track down and forcibly bring back Nyekazi.

“He was tied up like an animal to die,” one source told SaharaReporters.

"So for that reason Mr Nyekazi angrily walked away, Hon Timothy got upset and sent boys to go and get him the next day very early in the morning. Nyekazi was tied up to die but God save him, he was tied up for hours and his hands are now giving him problems, Mr Nyekazi is going through excruciating pains in his both arms and his knees are also badly injured."

Photos seen by SaharaReporters show the victim in visible pain, with swelling and signs of trauma around his arms and knees in the ground.
