EXCLUSIVE: Katsina Governor’s Son-In-Law Asks EFCC To Return Phones, Apple Watch Seized In Investment Probe | Sahara Reporters
The devices being sought are an iPhone 17 Pro Max (Blue), Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (Blue), and Apple Watch Ultra.
The son-in-law of the Katsina State Governor, Ahmed Uthman Muhammad, has demanded the immediate release of his personal electronic devices seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with an ongoing investigation arising from an investment scheme controversy.
Muhammad, through his solicitors, M. A. Attah SAN & Co. (ECARUS LAW), made the demand in a letter dated August 4, 2026, to the Zonal Director of the EFCC’s Gombe Zonal Directorate. The letter was copied to the Head of Investigation and the Sectional Head of the FEMS Department.
The devices being sought are an iPhone 17 Pro Max (Blue), Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (Blue), and Apple Watch Ultra.
In the letter titled, “RE: Request For The Immediate Release Of Our Client’s Personal Devices,” the lawyers said Muhammad had complied with all conditions attached to his administrative bail and fully cooperated with the commission’s investigation.
The lawyers stated that their client had also made the payment required by the EFCC to the complainant in the matter.
According to the solicitors, Muhammad provided the passwords to the devices and signed a consent form authorising the EFCC to examine them.
They, however, said the consent was limited to the investigation of the specific social media publication that resulted in the complaint against him.
The letter reads in part: “We act as Solicitors to Mr. Ahmad Uthman (‘our Client’) and respectfully request the immediate release of his personal devices currently in the custody of the Commission, namely: iPhone 17 Pro Max (Blue); Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (Blue); and Apple Watch Ultra.”
The lawyers said Muhammad had fulfilled the requirements imposed on him during the investigation, including making the payment required by the commission to the complainant.
They further stated that their client had cooperated with investigators by providing access to the devices and authorising their examination.
“Our Client has complied with all the conditions of his administrative bail, including making the payment required by the Commission to the complainant,” the letter reads.
“He also cooperated fully with the investigation by providing the passwords to the devices and signing a consent form authorizing their examination.
“He gave that consent solely for the purpose of investigating the specific social media publication that gave rise to the complaint”.
The lawyers further disclosed that the EFCC had retained the devices for approximately four weeks, arguing that “this period has afforded sufficient time to carry out any examination reasonably required for the investigation.”
They explained that since Muhammad had cooperated fully with the investigation, the continued retention of his personal property should no longer be necessary if the examination had been completed.
The solicitors therefore requested the immediate release of all three devices.
They also explained that Muhammad was currently unable to personally collect the devices and had consequently authorised a relative to receive them on his behalf.
“We therefore request the immediate release of the devices. As our Client is presently unable to collect them personally, he has executed a letter authorizing a relative to receive them on his behalf. We enclose a copy of the authorization letter for ease of reference,” the letter reads.
The lawyers urged the EFCC to give the request “prompt attention and release the devices without further delay”.
Muhammad is married to Aisha Dikko Radda, the first daughter of Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
The couple got married in Katsina in May 2025, in a ceremony attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and several senior political figures.
The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) publicly congratulated Aisha Dikko Radda and Muhammad on their wedding in a May 3, 2025 statement.
Reports from the wedding identified President Tinubu as the Waliyi or guardian for the bride, while former Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda represented the groom’s family as Wakili. The matrimonial rite was conducted at the Katsina Central Mosque.
The wedding attracted prominent political figures, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje; and several serving governors.
The marriage was reportedly solemnised with a dowry of N700,000.
A report by Trust Radio following the wedding stated that Aisha is a graduate of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Adamawa State, while it reported that Muhammad’s father is from Adamawa State and that his mother is said to have roots in Daura.
The report also said there was a proposal to confer on Muhammad the traditional title of Inuwar Kasar Hausa in the Daura Emirate.
Muhammad has also been publicly associated with the Ahmad Uthman PureLife Foundation, an organisation involved in environmental and community initiatives.
In September 2025, the Katsina State Government launched a statewide tree-planting and landscaping project across 120 schools in partnership with the Ahmad Uthman PureLife Foundation and the ACRESAL Project Katsina.
According to reports on the initiative, each participating school was to receive 200 trees, while pupils were provided N5,000 each to nurture trees assigned to them.
Muhammad was quoted as saying that his foundation had planted more than 30,000 trees in schools, hospitals and public spaces across Katsina State, while more than 10,000 pupils had received trees and N5,000 each under the “A Tree for Every Child” project.
The Katsina Development Management Board was also reported to have committed N25 million to the tree-planting initiative.
Earlier this year, Muhammad was reportedly taken into custody amid controversy over a ₦455 million investment scheme. The development followed complaints from investors who said they had been unable to recover funds tied to the arrangement.
In May 2026, Muhammad was also reported to have denied allegations that he had been arrested by the Department of State Services over an alleged N460 million Hajj-related fraud.
He said the reports were false and maintained that he had only been invited for questioning over a personal matter before being released the same day.
