Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was reportedly among passengers evacuated from a train after a Russian drone struck near the Polish border in Ukraine.
Johnson, who was travelling in Ukraine, was said to be unharmed after the train was temporarily evacuated at about 5am following nearby drone attacks and an incident on the railway line, according to the U.S. Sun.
Also aboard the train was Günter Sautter, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s foreign and security-policy adviser.
There was no indication that the train carrying Johnson and Sautter was directly struck by a drone.
The evacuation came after another train travelling on the Kyiv-Warsaw route was reportedly hit by a Russian drone about one mile from the Polish border.
The train was carrying 206 passengers, who were seen fleeing in fear following the attack. Ukrainian railway authorities said no one was injured in the incident.
Johnson and other prominent Western figures had been attending the 2026 annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) in Kyiv before the incident.
The development was reported amid heightened tensions following continued Russian attacks across Ukraine.
The incident came as Russia continued its military campaign against Ukraine, with fresh attacks reported in several parts of the country.
Last Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said two people were killed and several others injured in the latest attacks, which targeted areas including Kyiv and the Odesa region.
In Kyiv, a Russian drone struck an apartment building on Wednesday morning, injuring four people, according to Zelenskyy.
“This morning in Kyiv, a Russian drone struck an apartment building. Four people were injured,” Zelenskyy said last Thursday.
He said emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire caused by the attack.
“As always, our rescuers responded swiftly, and the fire has now been extinguished,” he added.
In the Odesa region, the international Starokozache border crossing with Moldova was also hit during the night.
“Tragically, two people were killed and three others were injured. Sixteen people were evacuated by rescuers,” he added.
The attack forced the suspension of operations at the border crossing, disrupting movement through the international facility linking Ukraine with neighbouring Moldova.
Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the families of those killed and said emergency workers were continuing to respond to the damage caused by the attacks.
He also said efforts were ongoing to deal with the aftermath of Russian attacks in the Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions.
