The results were being announced at polling units following the conclusion of voting and commencement of counting in the ongoing Osun State governorship election on Saturday.

Results announced by Presiding Officers at several polling units across Osun State have shown the Accord Party recording early performances in parts of Ife, Ilesa and Ola-Oluwa, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) is also leading in some polling units.

The results were being announced at polling units following the conclusion of voting and commencement of counting in the ongoing Osun State governorship election on Saturday.

At Polling Unit 007, Open Space opposite Olubode Palace, Bode-Osi, in Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area, the Accord Party polled 167 votes to defeat the APC, which scored 86 votes.

The ADC scored six votes, while ADP, APGA and ZLP recorded one vote each.

The polling unit had 490 registered voters, with 315 accredited voters participating in the election. A total of 315 votes were cast, while 171 ballot papers were unused. Four ballots were recorded as spoilt, while 53 were rejected.

In Ife Central Local Government Area, Accord also recorded victories in two polling units.

At Polling Unit 003, Akodi Ajaba, Ilare IV Registration Area, Accord secured 138 votes, against 97 votes for the APC and four for the ADC.

At Polling Unit 005, Oranmiyan Tower, Akarabata Registration Area, Accord polled 96 votes, while APC secured 84 votes and ADC received one vote. Six votes were declared void, with 187 votes cast and 181 recorded as valid.

Similarly, at Polling Unit 007, School of Science, Ondo Road, Yekemi, Ife-East LGA, Accord recorded 244 votes, while APC scored 64 and ADC secured 10 votes.

The results indicated a strong showing for Accord in parts of the Ife axis

However, the APC took the lead at some polling units in Iwo Local Government Area.

At Polling Unit 006, Olumodan, Oke Adan I Registration Area, APC scored 139 votes, while Accord polled 126 votes. ADC received seven votes, BP two, APGA one, YPP one and ADP two votes. Two votes were recorded as void.

At another polling unit in the same registration area, Polling Unit 008, Open Space, Ita-Ago, APC scored 118 votes, while Accord secured 101 votes. ADC received six votes and APM one vote.

In Ilesa East Local Government Area, the contest was closely fought at Polling Unit 009, Apostolic School II, Isare.

Accord narrowly defeated APC, scoring 84 votes against APC’s 83. ADP and ADC each recorded two votes, while APGA scored one. The Presiding Officer recorded 25 void votes out of a total of 197 votes.

Another result from Ilesa West Local Government Area also showed Accord ahead.

At Ward 005, George Burton Memorial College, Polling Unit 006, Accord polled 163 votes, while APC received 101 votes.

ADC scored four votes, AA three and APGA one, while five votes were declared void. The total votes cast stood at 277.

At Mercyville Nursery and Primary School, Ido-Osun, Ward 04, Egbedore LGA, Accord again emerged ahead with 177 votes.

The APC scored 134 votes, while ADC received five votes. ADP and APGA scored one vote each, with no votes recorded for APM and BOOT.

According to the report from the polling unit, 327 of the 636 accredited voters participated in the exercise. Voting closed and counting commenced at 3pm, with the counting concluded at about 4:20pm.

The results are being announced by Presiding Officers at individual polling units after counting in the presence of party agents and other stakeholders.

The emerging figures, however, do not represent the final results of the election. They are polling-unit results and will have to pass through the prescribed collation process before the Independent National Electoral Commission declares the winner.

The results also show that the contest remains competitive, with Accord leading in several polling units in Ife, Ilesa, Ola-Oluwa and Egbedore, while APC has recorded victories in some polling units in Iwo.

The election has so far been closely watched amid heightened political tension and allegations by political parties and candidates concerning the conduct of the exercise.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord platform, had earlier raised an alarm over an alleged plot to disrupt the election and called on security agencies to ensure that the prescribed process of moving results from polling units through wards and local government areas to the state collation centre is followed.

As counting continues across the state, attention is now shifting from voting to the transmission, collation and verification of results, with political parties and their agents expected to monitor the process closely.
