Reacting, Olajengbesi said he was writing “with a painful heart” because, according to him, Oke had chosen to use the pain of a bereaved family for political purposes.

The spokesperson for the Ademola Adeleke Governorship Campaign Council and Accord Party candidate for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has accused a member of the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, of politicising the death of his nephew instead of showing concern for the bereaved family.

Olajengbesi, in a statement reacting to comments made by Oke, said the lawmaker had failed to demonstrate similar concern for other victims of violence in Osun State, including Ajayi Aderogba, an Accord Party member who was killed in Esa Oke, Oke’s hometown, and Timileyin Ola, whose mother is a prominent Accord Party member.

The statement came after Oke in a Facebook post that those responsible for the killing of his nephew were attempting to “walk on his grave” by sending emissaries to his widow with an offer of N10 million and scholarships for his children.

Oke wrote: “Those who killed my Nephew want to walk on his grave. They’re sending emissaries to his widow on behalf of themselves and Osun State Govt with 10m Naira offer and scholarship for his children. Funny characters. Playing politics with anything. Dele before his death was a success story in his own little way.”

Reacting, Olajengbesi said he was writing “with a painful heart” because, according to him, Oke had chosen to use the pain of a bereaved family for political purposes.

“I write this with a painful heart, as I note that Wole Oke has resorted to using the pain of other people for politics. It is sad that Nigerian politicians are evil, wicked, callous and without humanity in them. It is not a decent thing to do,” Olajengbesi said.

He recalled that during the Osun State governorship election, Ajayi Aderogba, an Accord Party member in Esa Oke, was allegedly killed in the presence of his wife and three children.

According to Olajengbesi, he stood by Aderogba’s family, demanded justice, provided the family’s contact details to the Osun State Government for necessary assistance and offered his personal support.

He, however, explained that Oke, who represents the constituency and whose hometown was the scene of the killing, did not take similar action.

“During the Osun State governorship election, a young man, Ajayi Aderogba, an Accord member in Esa Oke, Wole Oke’s town, was gruesomely killed in the presence of his wife and three children. I stood with his family, demanded justice, provided their contact to the State Government for necessary assistance and offered my personal support. Wole Oke, who represents the people and in whose town it happened, did nothing,” he said.

Olajengbesi also cited the killing of Timileyin Ola in Ijebu Jesa, saying the victim was killed just two days before his birthday.

He said Ola’s mother was a major member of the Accord Party and that he again stood by the family, demanded justice, facilitated contact with the government for assistance and offered personal support.

He further recalled the murder of Ayegbo Oladele, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, two days before the election.

According to him, he publicly condemned Oladele’s killing, demanded justice for his family, requested the contact details of the deceased’s wife, forwarded them to the Osun State Government and personally offered his support.

“Two days before the election, Ayegbo Oladele, a member of the APC, was also gruesomely murdered. I publicly condemned his killing and demanded justice for his family. I requested the contact of his wife, forwarded it to the State Government and personally offered my support,” he said.

“It is shameful to read Hon. Wole Oke’s reaction to my humanitarian gesture and that of the State Government. At a time when families are mourning, compassion should never be reduced to politics. Wole Oke is now busy using the death of an innocent man as the last item of his political career,” he said.

He further accused Oke of failing to show concern for Aderogba, whom he described as the lawmaker’s own kinsman, as well as for Ola’s family.

“Hon. Wole Oke did not show any concern for the family of Ajayi Aderogba, his own kinsman, who was killed in his own Esa Oke, nor did he show any concern for the family of Timileyin Ola. Instead, statements attributed to him sought to link some of these deaths to cult-related violence at a time when the families were in pain,” Olajengbesi said.

According to him, the death of Oke’s nephew, Dele, should not become a political weapon or be treated differently from the deaths of other victims of violence.

“It is unfortunate that the death of Dele is now the new politics Wole Oke has found. I will not allow politics to determine whose widow deserves compassion, whose children deserve support or whose family deserves justice,” he said.

Olajengbesi also said he remained determined to support Dele’s family despite the political controversy surrounding the case.

“I am determined to offer assistance to Dele’s family because I know that if I do not make the attempt, Wole Oke will not get up and do what he is supposed to do,” he said.

The Accord Party candidate also addressed Oke’s alleged accusation against Governor Ademola Adeleke over Dele’s death.

“You have accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of being responsible for the killing of Dele. The State Government will conduct a live inquest into all the killings, and the entire world will see soon,” Olajengbesi said.

He called for justice for all victims of violence in the state, irrespective of their political affiliations.
