President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation. The presidential aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 6:22 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 for London, where he spent about a week before proceeding to Paris, France. The Presidency later extended his stay by a few days after initially announcing a three-week working vacation.

During his stay in Paris, Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron at a private dinner and held discussions with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group.

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, in a release, stated that President Tinubu’s aircraft is expected to touch down at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, later on Tuesday evening.

Tinubu chose to fly to Lagos first to honour the memory of the martyr of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, Chief MKO Abiola. According to the statement, on Independence Day, the President will attend the premiere of a movie honouring Abiola, the winner of the June 1993 election, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.

While in Lagos, Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections. The President will return to Abuja after his political engagements in Lagos.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday dismissed concerns about his health, saying he is “healthy, sound, and ready to go” after returning to Nigeria from his extended working vacation in Europe.
