The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has declared that he never betrayed the trust of President Bola Tinubu throughout the investigation into the fake Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) recently cleared Mr. Gbajabiamila of any wrongdoing, stating that there was no evidence linking him to the appointment of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the individual behind the fictitious agency.

I was tested but never betrayed Tinubu’s trust.

The commission’s investigation revealed that Mr. Adeyemi personally forged an appointment letter dated March 2024 on a fake State House letterhead, falsely attributing the signature on the document to Mr. Gbajabiamila. The probe found no evidence that Mr. Adeyemi was appointed by the Chief of Staff or had any direct engagement with him.

Following the emergence of the allegations, Mr. Gbajabiamila consistently denied any involvement, petitioned law enforcement authorities, and filed a N15 billion defamation suit against Mr. Adeyemi. President Tinubu had ordered the ICPC to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, during which Mr. Gbajabiamila appeared before the commission in July to answer investigators’ questions.
