The Nigeria Police Force has directed various units of its Mobile Police Force (MOPOL) to urgently submit comprehensive nominal rolls containing detailed personal information of all Special Police Officers (SPOs) serving under them.

The directive was contained in a police wireless message dated September 4, 2026, from the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), MOPOL Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The message, obtained by SaharaReporters, was addressed to MOPOL units in Trg Ende-Hills, Ila-Orangun and Gwoza, with the Nigeria Police Force Directorate of Operations and Force Security (FORSEC), Abuja, copied.

According to the wireless message, the units were directed to submit both hard and soft copies of an updated nominal roll of all SPOs serving under their respective commands.

The document instructed that the information must include the officers’ service numbers, ranks, names, dates of enlistment, dates of last promotion, dates of birth, states of origin, Local Government Areas (LGAs), tribes, current duty posts and dates of deployment to their current duty posts.

The message, marked “IMMEDIATE,” said the directive was issued with the approval of the Inspector-General of Police.

It quoted the police authorities as directing the units to forward the information “in both hard and soft copies” and to ensure that the submission reached the relevant office by 10am on Friday, September 4, 2026.

The wireless message stated: “Promotion General S INGENPOL DIRECTS YOU FORWARD MINE X ON 04/09/2026 X IN BOTH HARD AND SOFT COPIES X UPDATED NOMINAL ROLL OF ALL SPOS X SERVING YOURS X UNDER THE FOLLOWING HEADINGS X S/NO X AP/NO X RANK X NAME X DATE ENLISTED X DATE LAST PROMOTED X DATE OF BIRTH X STATE OF ORIGIN X L.G.A X TRIBE X CURRENT DUTY POST X DATE DEPLOYED TO CURRENT DUTY POST.”

It further emphasised the urgency of the directive, stating: “TREAT AS VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE X ENDS X AS A MATTER OF UTMOST URGENCY X YOU ARE DIRECTED TO FORWARD MINE X COMPREHENSIVE NOMINAL ROLL OF ALL SPOS SERVING YOURS X IN BOTH HARD AND SOFT COPIES X RETURN YOURS TO REACH THIS OFFICE NLT 1000HRS X FRIDAY 04/09/2026 X”

The message also carried a reminder: “NER REMINDER X TREAT AS VERY URGENT. PLEASE.”

The directive was signed under the office of the AIG, MOPOL Force Headquarters, Abuja.

It remains unclear from the wireless message why the police authorities specifically requested the tribal identities of the officers alongside other service and personal details.

The directive comes amid heightened public scrutiny of recruitment, deployment and promotion practices within Nigeria’s security agencies, particularly over issues surrounding representation, postings and the treatment of officers from different parts of the country.
