The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved sweeping disciplinary actions against senior and junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, ordering severe reprimands, demotions, dismissals, and prosecutions of one of the most extensive internal crackdowns in recent years.

A police wireless message dated March 11, 2025, with reference DTO: 111400/3/2025, and issued from Force Headquarters, Abuja, confirmed that the sanctions followed findings of misconduct, with a strong directive that all officers implicated in falsification of records must be charged in court.

The signal, addressed to multiple departments and formations across the country, including Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Interpol, Counter-Terrorism units, Mobile Police Force, and all state commands, stated unequivocally: “Ensure that all officers alleged of falsification of records should be charged to court.”

According to the internal communication, the Commission, in a letter referenced PSC/1524/IV/1/102 dated March 5, 2026, approved different categories of punishments affecting scores of officers across ranks.

However, several officers were not as fortunate, as the PSC ordered reductions in rank across different levels. ACP Jimoh Jabaje Moshood was demoted to CSP, while CSPs Alhassan A. Majia, Ado Aminu Yusuf, and Shaba John were reduced in rank to Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent levels respectively.

Further demotions affected DSP Akilo Abiodun Samson, and ASPs Ibrahim Audu, Sadiku Haruna, Ubong Emmanuel, and Ekowo Matthew, some of whom were also surcharged for the loss or damage of police property, including firearms.

The Commission also approved outright dismissals for CSP Audu Yahaya Washuwanda, DSP Adedokun Adeleye, and ASP Mohammed Umar, while ordering prosecutions for ASP Maruff Funmilade, ASP Everest Magaji, ASP Ahmed Shehu, and ASP Okeke Joseph.

The signal further listed additional officers who received reprimands, including CP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosanyin, DCPs Ajayi Oluyemi and Sulaiman K. Bayonle, CSPs Ladan John Musa and Abubakar S. Musa, as well as several Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents who were also surcharged for damaged items.
