BREAKING: Panic In Kwara As Terrorists Attack Ifelodun, Edu Communities, Residents Flee
Sources within the affected communities told SaharaReporters that the attackers stormed the areas late Wednesday night.
Suspected terrorists on Wednesday night launched coordinated attacks on several communities in Kwara State, targeting villages in Ifelodun and Edu local government areas, leaving residents in fear and uncertainty over possible kidnappings and casualties.
Sources within the affected communities told SaharaReporters that the attackers stormed the areas late Wednesday night.
Communities reportedly attacked include Budesu and Ahun, both located in Ifelodun Local Government Area, while Bishewa community in Edu Local Government Area was also said to have come under attack by the armed assailants.
Residents said the gunmen arrived in large numbers and began operations that appeared to be targeted at abducting villagers, a tactic commonly associated with bandit groups operating across parts of northern Nigeria.
A resident from one of the affected communities, who spoke under the condition of anonymity due to security concerns, described the terrifying moment the attackers invaded the village.
“The bandits came late in the night and started shooting. Everyone began running into the bush for safety. We are still trying to know how many people they took away,” the resident said.
Another local source from the area confirmed that several families had been thrown into confusion.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of persons abducted or injured in the attacks could not be independently confirmed.
Residents, however, expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity in rural communities across the state and urged security operatives to immediately deploy forces to the affected areas to rescue possible victims and prevent the attackers from escaping.
A community youth leader told reporters that villagers were currently living in fear as the attackers were believed to still be operating around nearby forests.
“We are appealing to the government and security agencies to come to our rescue quickly before the bandits escape with those they may have kidnapped,” he said.
