Ogun Health Centre Serving Agada Community Left In Ruins As Residents Lament Years Of Neglect | Sahara Reporters

The Whekan Health Centre in Agada community, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been abandoned and left in a deplorable condition, leaving residents without access to primary healthcare services.
Videos sent to SaharaReporters show the extent of deterioration at the facility, which is expected to serve thousands of residents in Agada and neighbouring communities.

The facility stands in the middle of an overgrown field, with no visible sign of medical activity.
Another video showing the exterior reveals walls stained with black mould and algae, while wooden window shutters are broken and hanging loosely. The main entrance is also open, with no door in place.
Inside the facility, the videos show a section of the roof that has collapsed, allowing daylight to stream into the building.
The interior walls are cracked, peeling and marked by water stains. In one of the rooms, a curtain has been used in place of a door.
The long veranda is also in a state of disrepair, with cracked concrete flooring, exposed ceiling beams and weeds growing around the foundation of the building.
Another video taken inside one of the rooms shows a dusty wooden bench and a window with broken shutters through which streaks of sunlight enter the room.
SaharaReporters observed that there were no visible beds, drugs, medical equipment or healthcare workers at the facility.
Residents lamented that the health centre had been allowed to deteriorate for years despite government claims of investment in primary healthcare, leaving members of the community with limited access to basic medical services.
“This is supposed to be our health centre, but it looks like an abandoned building. Pregnant women, children and the elderly have nowhere to go when they are sick,” a resident said.
Community members said they are now forced to travel long distances to Ijebu or resort to self-medication and roadside drug vendors for treatment.
The state of Whekan Health Centre raises fresh concerns about the Ogun State Government’s Primary Health Care Revitalization Programme which promised to upgrade 236 PHCs across the state.
