The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a suspect after a newly married man, identified as Gaske Masara, was found in a pool of blood just three days after his wedding in the Tashar Aibo community of Jibia Local Government Area.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Masara, a local maize vendor, got married on Tuesday.

Reports circulating online, however, suggested that he was stabbed to death while resting at home.

But when PUNCH Metro reached out to the spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, on Tuesday, he urged the public to disregard unverified narratives, adding that an investigation was underway.

In an official statement on Monday, Aliyu confirmed that police received a distress report around 1:30 pm on Sunday concerning the death of a newly wedded groom.

“On November 23, 2025, at about 1:30 pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja Quarters, Jibia Local Government Area,” the statement partly read.

He noted that detectives swiftly responded and discovered the victim with a deep cut to the neck. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

“One person is in custody, suspected to be in connection with the offence, as investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident,” Aliyu added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, in the statement, assured residents of a thorough investigation while calling on anyone with useful information to assist police efforts.

He also gave the assurance that all information provided would be treated confidentially.

The tragic death comes amid rising concerns over violent incidents across the country.

PUNCH Metro reported in 024 that a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife to death in Lagos and set their house ablaze.
