The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, for alleged conspiracy and rape of another student of the institution.

The command disclosed this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, on Monday.

Ayanlade noted that the incident began when the victim, a 20-year-old female student, was invited by her secondary school mate, who was also a student of the university, to her residence.

He noted that upon the victim’s arrival at the place, the friend, identified as Queen Sodo, allegedly offered her a drug-laced drink.

He stated, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was invited to the residence of her long-time friend, Queen Sodo, ‘f’, 19 years old, also a student of the same school.

“Trusting in the longevity of their friendship, which began in secondary school and continued into university, the victim accepted a drink provided by her friend, which was later found to have been laced with drugs, causing her to lose consciousness.

“Observing that the victim had become incapacitated, Queen Sodo reportedly left the room, summoned her male co-conspirator, and kept watch while the crime was being committed.”

The PPRO added that it took the intervention of a neighbour who noticed unusual noise from her neighbour’s room to rescue the victim from the situation.
Ayanlade stated that the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention while the suspects were arrested.

“Both arrested suspects have confessed to their involvement and the specific roles they played in the crime, providing investigators with crucial information to aid in the prosecution of the case.

“Relevant and corroborated exhibits relating to the crime were recovered at the scene, including the bottle of the drug-laced drink, which will be transferred for toxicology examination, all of which have been identified by both the victim and the suspects as connected to the incident.

“The suspects are presently in lawful custody, and efforts are ongoing to transfer them to the Gender Desk Office, Akure, for further discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution,” he stressed.

Ayanlade urged parents on the need to sensitise their children to the importance of exercising caution in relationships and friendships.

He concluded that the command would not relent in bringing offenders and criminally minded individuals to justice.

PUNCH Metro reported on November 2 that operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, arrested a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Adegbola, in connection with multiple cases of rape, assault and armed robbery targeting female passengers across the state.

The arrest followed viral online posts in which several victims identified the suspect’s picture as that of the man who allegedly assaulted them after posing as a taxi driver.
