LP can repeat Abia victory in Edo – Otti

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, was in Edo State on Thursday to rally support for the Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, ahead of the September 21 governorship election.

Otti, speaking in Igbo, called on the people to vote the Labour Party into power as was done in Abia State in the last general elections.

He emphasised the importance of the forthcoming governorship election in the state and urged voters to protect their votes.

He stated, “Though the party may not have the guns and ammunition to win the election, we have the voters to deliver our chosen candidate for the people of the state. “I have come to appeal to you. You are all our people. I told Akpata that there is no need to preach to the converted. We have already converted you, and now it’s time for us to convert others.

“This election will make a difference in Edo State. It is an election for the people. So, the charge I want to give you is that when you vote on that day, remain at your polling booth and do not leave. That is how we did it in Abia State. For 48 to 72 hours, nobody sleeps.”

He added, “I used to tell our people that we have a saying, ‘The rat does not eat something when the owner is awake.’ So, you should not sleep. If it is about the votes, we will have the votes; if it is about winning, we will win. We will not allow any rat to steal our victory.”

Akpata, while welcoming Otti to the state, remarked that the Abia State governor was in Benin to speak to the people of the state, not just the party faithful.

He added, “Jesus Christ said He did not come for the saved but for the lost.”
