The restriction will be reviewed as the security situation improves, with plans to revisit the measure when necessary.
The Executive Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA) in Benue State, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, has imposed a 6:30 pm curfew in the council to address the escalating insecurity in the region.
Victor, in a statement on Sunday, said the curfew, which takes immediate effect, will restrict the movement of people into and out of the area after the designated time.
“This directive takes immediate effect,” Victor said. “With this Executive directive, people coming into Gwer West LGA and those going out to other places are to do so within the stipulated time of 6:30 pm.”
The restriction will be reviewed as the security situation improves, with plans to revisit the measure when necessary.
The curfew follows a spate of deadly attacks in neighbouring parts of the state.
On Friday, May 9, 2025, suspected herdsmen killed at least nine farmers in coordinated assaults on two communities, Ayilamo and Jato-Acka.
More than 20 armed assailants stormed Jato-Acka, killing six people and setting homes ablaze. The attackers then moved to Ayilamo, where three more victims, including a Livestock Guard officer, were killed.
The recent violence highlights the ongoing farmer-herder conflict in the state, which has been a source of concern for local authorities.
