Zaidu dismisses Leeds links

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Championship side Leeds United, insisting there has been no contact between him and the English club, PUNCH Sports Nigeria reports.

The Porto left-back, who has been touted as a potential replacement for Junior Firpo at Elland Road, firmly denied the speculation in quotes shared by Goal.

“I am not in contact with Leeds United or any team right now. I am not negotiating with Leeds United and I have not been offered a four-year contract. They lied about it,” Sanusi stated.

Reports had suggested that Leeds were preparing a €2m summer bid for the Nigeria international, and had already opened talks with Porto and were ready to offer the full-back a deal until 2029.

Leeds, who currently sit second in the Championship table with two points behind leaders Sheffield United, are reportedly aware that Firpo’s contract expires this summer and view Sanusi as a potential low-cost replacement for the former Barcelona defender.

Daniel Farke’s side are hoping to secure promotion to the Premier League this season and are believed to be planning their summer transfer business accordingly, regardless of which division they will compete in next term.

Sanusi has struggled for game time at Porto this season as he works his way back from a long spell out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, making just three league appearances for the Portuguese giants.

The 26-year-old Nigeria international, who has earned 22 caps for the Super Eagles, has a contract with Porto until 2027, but the Portuguese club has yet to decide if they are willing to sell the defender this summer.
