The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps on Monday warned motorists against reckless and uncoordinated driving during the festive season to prevent road accidents.

The South-West Zonal Commander of TRACE, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, gave the warning while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota.

He said the advice was necessary, stressing that “life has no duplicate.”

Ajibade emphasised the need for motorists to take adequate rest, noting that driving while sleepy could be dangerous.

“We urge motorists who are travelling to look for a safer place to rest whenever they are tired.

“They should also ensure that all vehicle components, especially the brake system, are functioning well, and reduce their speed because speed kills,” he said.

He further implored motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations to maintain safety during the festive season and to avoid drunk driving to prevent unnecessary loss of lives.

Ajibade also called for cooperation with TRACE personnel and other traffic agencies to ensure a free flow of traffic during the yuletide period.

The admonition comes amid the traditionally high rate of road accidents during Nigeria’s festive yuletide season, when increased vehicular movement, fatigue, speeding, and reckless driving often lead to spikes in crashes and fatalities.
