The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has assured residents of adequate security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu, disclosed that 4,000 personnel had been deployed across the FCT and its environs to safeguard lives and protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

The personnel, drawn from specialised units such as the Special Intervention Squad, Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Arm Squad, Agro Rangers, Special Protection Unit, Intelligence Unit, and the Operations Department, have been tasked with maintaining peace and order throughout the festive period.

Odumosu, in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, on Thursday, urged personnel to ensure compliance with the operation order.

He highlighted the need for enhanced vigilance in securing critical infrastructure, worship centres, recreational facilities, markets, malls, bus parks, and other strategic locations across the city.

He warned that those intending to exploit the festive period for criminal activities would face severe consequences, stating that the corps operatives were prepared to thwart any security breach.

“We are aware of the peculiarities of crime perpetrated by criminals in this type of season, and we are ready to curtail any security breach.

“Those who may want to take advantage of the festive period to undermine the government’s efforts by committing crimes against the state and residents of the FCT are advised to have a rethink”, Odumosu noted.

The commandant also emphasised the corps’ ongoing 24-hour surveillance and patrols aimed at protecting public infrastructure and deterring vandals and scavengers.

“We will not rest until we ensure the safety of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT,” Odumosu said, reiterating the command’s commitment to a hitch-free celebration.

The commandant called for maximum cooperation among personnel and synergy with sister security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police, to ensure the success of the operation.

He also cautioned armed personnel to exercise restraint in the use of firearms, warning that any misuse would attract strict sanctions.

Odumosu encouraged FCT residents to remain vigilant, celebrate in moderation, and report any suspicious activity to security agencies for prompt action. He assured them of their safety and urged them to go about their activities without fear.
