Trace, an Afro-urban music and culture platform, has announced that the second edition of its awards ceremony will be held in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Scheduled to take place from February 24 to 26, 2025, the event will be hosted at the luxurious Mora 5-star Resort.
The announcement was made during a media parley during the week in Lagos. The three-day event will commence with a two-day summit featuring insightful panel sessions and masterclasses focusing on African creative industries, technology, and branding.
The grand awards night, set for February 26, will be broadcast live across 25 Trace channels and streamed in over 200 countries, including English, French, and Portuguese-speaking regions.
Speaking at the event, Sam Onyemelukwu, Senior Vice-President of Global Business Development for Trace, emphasised the significance of the awards in promoting African music culture.
“We have worked on this for many years before hosting the first edition last year. It is important for Trace to organise an award because the culture that emerged from the streets of Lagos has spread across the globe, and a brand like Trace must elevate that culture to the same level as the Grammys or MTV Awards globally. We have played a significant role in the music industry, particularly in afrobeats and amapiano. We cannot sit back and allow others to take ownership of that culture; we had to step up, play our part, and stand up for Africa,” Onyemelukwu stated.
The awards celebrate the diversity and excellence of African music, featuring genres such as afrobeats, dancehall, hip-hop, afro-pop, amapiano, soukous, gospel, RnB, and more.
