Some suspected armed robbers on Sunday night attacked a community in the Atan-Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State and killed a security guard who was guarding a mini carpark in the area while absconding with a truck parked in the park.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Tuesday from a resident of the community who pleaded anonymity that a food vendor who sells on the premises of the park had discovered the lifeless body of the guard who was hacked and tied to a corner on Monday morning.

The food vendor was said to have raised the alarm, thereby drawing the attention of other community members.

Upon the arrival of the park owner, it was discovered also that a truck was parked on the premises.

The source told our correspondent that the guard, who had always loitered around in the community, was recently employed by the park owner to secure the facility in a bid to assist him.

The source said, “There was a robbery incident at a private park in our area, the robbers killed the guard of the park. They hacked him and tied him to a corner. The place used to be a mechanic workshop before it was abandoned and the owner had allowed people to use it as a park.

“A truck parked on the premises was also stolen by the robbers. It was a food vendor who sells on the premises that discovered the lifeless body of the guard and raised the alarm. Police officers from Atan came there and took the body to the Ilaro Hospital Morgue.”

When contacted for a reaction on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, promised to get back to our correspondent but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer in the community who was privy to the incident but not authorised to speak to the media confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday.

The officer however declined further comment on the incident.

“Yes, the incident happened. The Atan Division visited the scene but I cannot give further details on the incident,” the police officer said.

PUNCH Metro reported on October 30 that a construction worker, Segun Adebite, was found dead with machete wounds after a disagreement ensued between him and some persons at a construction site along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Following the report, police operatives visited the site and found the body of Segun lying lifeless with machete wounds while those he had allegedly fought with could not be found.
