The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, has welcomed members of the 10th Assembly from the Christmas and New Year holidays, urging them to work in unity for the betterment and prosperity of the state.

Speaking during the first plenary session on Tuesday, in Calabar, the speaker emphasised the need for legislators to renew their commitment to serving the people and to approach the new year with a collective sense of purpose.

Ayambem reflected on the holiday season as a period of gratitude and reflection. He encouraged members to harness the energy and lessons from the break to improve the quality of legislative deliberations and outcomes.

“The task before us remains immense, but with unity, focus, and determination, we can achieve significant milestones for the benefit of all Cross Riverians,” he stated.

The speaker called on the House to prioritise collaboration over political and ideological differences, noting that harmony within the legislature is essential for achieving the state’s developmental goals.

He said, “As representatives of the people, we must foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Let us set aside partisan differences and prioritise the collective interest of our constituents and the state.”

Ayambem further commended Governor Bassey Otu, for his visionary leadership and the successful implementation of the ‘People’s First’ agenda.

He assured the governor and the people of Cross River that the Assembly would continue to support the administration’s policies aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic growth.

“This House will continue to align its legislative agenda with the vision of the executive to ensure sustainable development across all sectors,” he said.

He also commended Cross Riverians for their resilience and steadfastness in the face of challenges. He reassured citizens of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing their concerns through people-focused legislation.

“Your faith in us inspires our work. We are determined to make 2025 a year of remarkable progress and transformation for our state,” he noted.

Highlighting the legislative achievements of the previous year,  Ayambem celebrated the successful passage of key bills and motions that impacted many sectors. He charged members to build on this momentum in 2025 by intensifying efforts to meet the needs of the people.

“We have made great strides, but there is more to be done. Together, we can create meaningful change. Let us embrace 2025 with renewed vigour and a shared commitment to building a prosperous Cross River State. Together, we can achieve greatness”, he concluded.
