Seyi Tinubu gifts Plateau b’ball tourney winners N5m

In a thrilling display of sportsmanship, the Seyi Tinubu Basketball Championship has concluded in Plateau State, with the Dogon Dutse Warriors emerging victorious.

Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, offered a total of N5m in cash prizes, with N3m awarded to the Dogon Dutse Warriors and N2m to the runners-up, Tudun Wada Lakers.

The championship, held at the iconic Dogon Dutse Basketball Pitch in Jos, aimed to promote unity, foster youth development, and strengthen community bonds in Plateau State.

Speaking at the event, Seyi Tinubu, represented by Engineer Auwal Ibrahim, expressed joy in the successful hosting of the tournament and the impact it has had on the local community.

“Plateau State is gradually regaining its former glory as the home of peace and tourism, and this tournament is a testament to the potential of the region. “We must all continue to work together to sustain this progress. Sports, as we have seen today, are an incredible unifying factor and can help build bridges in our society. This is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda of unifying the nation through sports and youth inclusiveness.”

Tinubu, who  emphasised that the tournament was just one example of how sports could serve as a catalyst for positive change in Nigeria, added  “This event highlights the importance of sports in fostering national unity and youth empowerment.

“We must recognise that sports have the power to bring people together, regardless of their background or beliefs.I also want to use this opportunity to thank President Bola Tinubu for his visionary leadership. His decisions are already laying the foundation for the future, especially for our youth. We must keep believing in his administration, knowing that the policies he has put in place are already yielding results across various sectors of the economy. I also want to appreciate the Nigerian people for their patience and resilience as we begin to see the positive impact of these reforms.”

Many residents who watched the basketball competition including , Sanusi Adam, commended Seyi Tinubu for organising such  a  tournament describing it as a success.

“This is exactly what our youth need—a platform to showcase their talents and come together as one. By bringing everyone together in the spirit of competition and sportsmanship, Seyi Tinubu has given us something to be proud of.

The tournament was not only a celebration of basketball but also a shining example of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action—uniting the nation through sports and empowering the next generation of leaders”,Adam said .

Mallo Bokkos, the manager of the Dogon Dutse Warriors, expressed happiness  in the team’s hard-earned victory. “This win is a result of the hard work and dedication of every single player on this team,” Bokkos said. “We’ve been working toward this moment for a long time, and to see it finally come to fruition is an incredible feeling.”

On the other hand, Ramatu Diallo, assistant captain of the Tudun Wada Lakers, accepted the runners-up prize on behalf of her team with grace and pride. “It’s disappointing to come so close to victory, but we gave it our best,” Diallo said. “This competition has taught us valuable lessons, and we’ll be back next year, stronger and more determined.”
