Men of the Oyo State Fire Service, on Friday, averted danger after a gas truck caught fire along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, near the Agidigbo area in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
In a statement to our correspondent, the General Manager of the agency, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident.
The fire was reported to the agency at exactly 12:10pm by CFM Adisa Kazeem.
Upon receiving the alert, the firefighting team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Adediji, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
On arrival, the team discovered that a truck carrying domestic gas had caught fire, posing a severe risk of explosion.
However, the team’s rapid response subdued the blaze, preventing the fire from intensifying into a full-blown explosion.
The statement read, “Oyo State Fire Service agency curtailed has truck on fire from Explosion along Ibadan/Lagos Expressway Agidigbo Area, Ibadan.
“The fire incident was reported to the Agency at exactly 12:10hrs of Friday 20th December, 2024 through GSM and CFM Adisa Kazeem of a gas tanker on fire at the above address.
“The personnel of the agency led by ACFS Adediji promptly deployed to the scene of Incident and arrived on time. On their arrival, it was discovered that a truck carrying domestic gas was involved in the inferno that might have led to an explosion.
“Prompt response of the agency curtailed and prevented it from leading to explosion. It was subdued and put under total control.
“Furthermore, the agency’s personnel are still on standby to forestall any form of distress.”
