The Peoples Democratic Party has commended Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the people of the state for the successful conduct of the local government elections, describing the process as a victory for democracy and the rule of law.

In a statement on Sunday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the party’s decisive win reflects the people’s strong support for Adeleke’s achievements in infrastructure, citizen empowerment, and human capital development.

The Osun State local government election followed a legal battle in which the Federal High Court in Osogbo initially dismissed the state’s local government chairmen and councillors. However, the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, later reinstated them.

On February 17, PDP supporters loyal to Adeleke’s administration strongly opposed a move to reinstate the chairmen, who are members of the opposition All Progressives Congress. This led to violence and fatalities in different parts of Osun State.

Despite the tensions, the scheduled LG election proceeded on Saturday.

The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Hashim Abioye, declared all 30 PDP chairmanship candidates and 332 councillors elected in their respective local governments and wards.

Ologunagba praised the people of Osun State for turning out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights.

He stated, “The Peoples Democratic Party congratulates Governor Ademola Adeleke, the government, and the people of Osun State for the successful conduct and outcome of the local government elections held on Saturday, 22 February 2025.”

“The free, fair, transparent, and credible election conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission is a resounding triumph for democracy, the rule of law, and the constitutional principle of true federalism.

“It represents the will of the people of Osun State over the anti-democratic forces of the APC, which sought to take control of the state through illegal means.”

The PDP commended Osun voters for resisting intimidation and alleged attempts by the APC to disrupt the electoral process.

The party further stated that its landslide victory in all 30 local government areas, despite alleged APC interference, underscores its political dominance in Osun State, the South-West region, and the country
at large.

“Moreover, the PDP’s overwhelming victory in the election reflects the people’s appreciation of Governor Adeleke’s outstanding achievements.

“His administration has prioritised infrastructural development, citizen empowerment, and human capital projects across key sectors, including power, healthcare, education, road construction, water resources, agriculture, and food production,” the statement continued.

The PDP urged the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors to align with Governor Adeleke’s vision to ensure grassroots communities continue to benefit from his people-first governance approach.
