The illegal bunkering site

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has uncovered illegally connected valves used by suspected oil bunkers to siphon crude oil from a major pipeline in the Umuoelechi creeks of Abia State.

According to NSCDC on its official Facebook page, the illegal connection was discovered during a routine surveillance operation in the area.

“CG’s SIS discovered an illegally connected valve to crude oil trunk line connected by bunkers and used for siphoning crude oil at the pipeline of Umuoelechi creeks, Abia State,” the post read.

The discovery was made by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad.

The tampered valve had been discreetly attached to a crude oil trunk line, allowing the perpetrators to divert large volumes of oil undetected.

The discovery highlights the ongoing challenge of oil theft across the country, which continues to impact national revenue and environmental safety.

In the same Abia, the CG SIS recently dismantled three wooden fabricated pour-put boats used for the distribution of stolen crude oil and illegal bunkering to artisanal oil refining sites in the creeks of the Umuorie community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia.

The discovered local pour-put boats are used by those involved in illegal oil bunkering to convey petroleum products to the artisanal oil-refining sites.
