A singer, Foelyjoe, has stated that his new song titled ‘Bodija’ will inspire people to stay strong amidst challenges.

He told Saturday Beats, “I believe this song will inspire people to stay strong, no matter the challenges they face. It draws deeply from the rich Yoruba cultural heritage, blending traditional Fuji sounds with a modern touch. My hope is that Bodija not only entertains but also motivates listeners to pursue their dreams fearlessly and never give up. This song is a reminder that boldness in the face of adversity is what leads to true success.”

Asked how the song continues the tradition of fuji music as a voice of social commentary and cultural preservation, Foelyjoe said, “Fuji music, a genre that evolved from the Yoruba Islamic music style of were, has long been a source of social commentary and cultural preservation in Nigeria. My latest release follows this tradition by incorporating rhythmic drum patterns and call-and-response vocals that are characteristic of the genre. It also pays homage to the iconic Bodija area in Ibadan, known for its deep-rooted history in Yoruba culture and the Fuji music scene. Bodija, a hub of artistic expression and cultural interactions, has influenced generations of fuji artistes. By infusing Bodija’s essence into my work, I aim to highlight the enduring legacy of fuji music, blending traditional sounds with contemporary themes that resonate with modern audiences while preserving the authentic spirit of Yoruba heritage.”
