Barcelona’s attempt to extend Dani Olmo’s registration has suffered another setback, as their appeal against an earlier rejection has also been denied, sports news platform 90Mins reported on Monday.
The Catalan club initially registered Olmo through a loophole following Andreas Christensen’s injury, but his current registration, alongside that of young forward Pau Victor, is set to expire on 31 December.
Barcelona’s financial difficulties remain central to the issue, with the club unable to generate sufficient funds to comply with La Liga’s stringent financial regulations.
Last week, their bid to secure an exception was dismissed by a court, which upheld La Liga’s position.
Olmo’s contract reportedly includes a clause allowing him to leave on a free transfer if he cannot be registered, a situation that has sparked interest from several Premier League clubs.
Numerous outlets have now confirmed the failure of Barcelona’s appeal, with the court affirming the validity of the initial ruling.
Fortunately for Barcelona, they have an alternative plan in place. The club has reportedly agreed to a €120 million deal involving the sale of VIP seats at Camp Nou over the next 20 years, pending final approval.
