Participants have praised the Lagos State Government’s monthly fitness initiative ‘Keep Fit Lagos’ as it marked its first anniversary at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The programme, organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports in collaboration with the Lagos State Sports Commission, featured free medical check-ups, aerobics sessions, and wellness education.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Damilare Orimoloye, emphasised the state’s commitment to expanding the initiative.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s support has been unwavering since we started this programme a year ago. The consistent turnout of hundreds of participants shows that Lagosians are embracing a healthier lifestyle,” Orimoloye said.

“We’re committed to expanding this initiative to other parts of the state to ensure more residents have access to its benefits.”

The December edition, themed “Celebrate Lagos”, featured Pilates, obstacle games, and dance sessions led by fitness instructors and experts, while health professionals provided wellness education.

Lagos State Sports Commission Director General Lekan Fatodu praised the initiative’s impact.

“This programme aligns perfectly with our mission to promote active living among Lagosians. The investment in sports and fitness translates to improved public health and reduced healthcare costs,” Fatodu stated.

The event also saw some participants receiving recognition for their consistency, while others were awarded gifts in celebration of the festive season.

Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, and House Committee Chairman on Youth, Sports, and Social Development, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, were among key stakeholders present at the anniversary celebration.
