Turkish giants Galatasaray are holding back in the pursuit of Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman due to the player’s recent performances, says Gala insider Burhan Can Terzi.

Following a turbulent start to the season at Atalanta as well as a broken relationship, Lookman has been linked with a move away from Italy and Gala has been tipped to get his signature in the January transfer window.

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano on Monday confirmed that Atalanta remain open to discussions regarding the 28-year-old Nigerian, but there is no agreement in place with Galatasaray, nor with Lookman’s agents.

According to Terzi, the Turkish club are still monitoring the player, with the hope of seeing an improvement in his performances.

“Galatasaray’s football management has some concerns regarding Lookman’s recent performances. Lookman’s performance in the recent matches hasn’t been well-received. Galatasaray might go for a name ahead of Lookman as well,” he said in quotes relayed via Forza Climbom, a Turkish football account on X.

Lookman, who scored 15 goals plus five assists last season, has not been on the same level. He has never failed to hit double figures of goals in the last three seasons at  Atalanta.

This term, he has just one goal in seven appearances in the Serie A.

His troubles began last season when he fell out with former Atalanta coach Gian Gasperini over a derogatory comment the gaffer made about his penalty ability.

He wanted out of the club but that soon escalated into another chaos as the club failed to reach an agreement with Inter Milan over a €40m transfer.

Lookman opted to go on strike and vowed never to play for the club but he was reintegrated into the team under Ivan Juric, who also had another altercation with him some weeks ago. The coach has also been sacked.
