FCT coaches demand NFF intervention over suspension

Two coaches of Like-Minds Football Club have rejected their indefinite suspension by the Federal Capital Territory Football Association’s Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, describing the action as a breach of the Nigeria Football Federation statutes.

The coaches, Luke Olaiya and Meschach Olatunji, told journalists in Abuja on Tuesday that the committee flouted laid-down procedures in reaching its decision.

Olaiya, a part-time coach who works primarily in construction, said the committee’s actions stemmed from a misunderstanding during the FCT FA election.

“I came straight from my construction site with my work tools, including a penknife. The police conducted a search, and after I explained myself, they allowed me to go pending investigation. But surprisingly, the committee rushed to suspend me indefinitely,” he said.

According to him, the committee violated the NFF statutes by giving him less than 48 hours to appear before the panel and issuing a public statement without board approval.

“The rules are clear – if a defendant fails to appear, a reminder should be sent. Instead, they hastily published their report the same day,” Olaiya added.

His colleague, Olatunji, questioned the committee’s composition, pointing out that it included Mansur Abdullah, who was banned by the FCT FA board in November, and Barr. Jimmy Kadiri, who remains under suspension by the Gwagwalada Area Council.

“These same individuals are now making decisions that affect football governance in the FCT. It appears to be a calculated attempt to smear our reputation and that of our club,” Olatunji said.

The coaches emphasised that they attended the election as observers and not as representatives of Like-Minds Football Club.

“We’re appealing to the NFF to intervene and ensure proper procedures are followed. FCT football has always maintained peace and order, and we must preserve this legacy,” Olaiya said.
